BOY KILL BOY INVADES U.S. – “SUZIE” IS iTUNES’
SINGLE OF THE WEEK
CIVILIAN DEBUT ALBUM ARRIVES JULY 25th ON ISLAND RECORDS, CHOSEN FOR PRESTIGIOUS “VIRGIN RECOMMENDS” 3rd QUARTER SALES CAMPAIGN
U.S. tours of West Coast (with Charlatans UK) and East Coast (with Echo And The Bunnymen) to be followed by Lollapalooza, Leeds, Reading, and other summer festivals
(June 28, 2006 – New York, NY) The wildly acclaimed London band Boy Kill Boy is bound to reachan even greater US audience this week, as their first single here, “Suzie,” is currently iTunes’ Single Of the Week. (The iTunes SOTW is an invaluable promotional key – witness the recent success of “Mama’s Room” for Island band Under The Influence Of Giants.) “Suzie” is the first single in America from Boy Kill Boy’s debut album, CIVILIAN, scheduled to arrive in stores July 25th. The band has already been chosen as one of Yahoo!’s “Who’s Next” candidates for July.
Boy Kill Boy is currently in the midst of a high profile East Coast tour with Echo and The Bunnymen that has brought them through Atlanta, Orlando, Charlotte, Norfolk, and Washington. The tour continues tomorrow at the TLA in Philadelphia (June 29), then on to the Paradise in Boston (June 30), and Irving Plaza in New York City (July 1st). This follows a select week of shows on the West Coast earlier this month with Charlatans UK. Boy Kill Boy, who headlined the competitive and prestigious NME New Music Tour across the U.K. in the spring, and ignited the crowd at the previous Carling Reading Festival, are booked for Lollapalooza, Leeds (August 25th), Reading (August 27th), and other prestigious festivals this summer.
Virgin Megastore has also just announced its selection of CIVILIAN for their next “Virgin Recommends” sales campaign during the third quarter. This is an extremely valuable boost for the album, which will receive free endcap positioning and listening stations nationwide, sale pricing, external marketing, and inclusion on the “Virgin Recommends 20” sampler CD (distributed with purchase of any “Virgin Recommends” title). This next “Virgin Recommends” campaign runs from August 10th through November 8th.
NME has cheekily compared Boy Kill Boy’s music to “the Smiths splitting half a disco biscuit with Hard-Fi in the Hacienda gents.” On the other hand, the influential British music weekly has also proclaimed, “It’s not so much a case of ‘most likely to.’ Boy Kill Boy are being talked about as rock’s ‘most definitely going to.’” Earlier this month, they performed on the MTV2 “Live In London” show.
Ever since their arrival on the scene last year with their first indie singles on the Fierce Panda label, Boy Kill Boy has been at the center of a feverish core of die-hard supporters in the U.K. They found early fans in DJs John Kennedy of XFM and the Zane-Lowe duo at BBC’s Radio 1, the latter crowning BKB’s previous single “Back Again” as the week’s “Hottest Track In The World Today.”
Boy Kill Boy – founder Chris Peck (lead vocals, guitar), Kevin Chase (bass), Pete Carr (keyboards), and Shaz (drums) – a defiant, confident London quartet with a knack for combining the more sinister elements of pop with their own edgy, desperate brilliance, have caught the imaginations of U.K. rock fans in a big way. Last December they launched the Boy Kill Boy Singles Club (www.boykillboysinglesclub.com) which posts free downloads of demos, radio sessions, live tracks and more every two weeks. Among recent highlights have been live versions of upcoming album tracks “Killer,” “6 Minutes,” and “Civil Sin”; and a live version of “On My Own” recorded in Nottingham. CIVILIAN was produced by John Cornfield (Supergrass, Muse, Razorlight).
“Every new day is a new opportunity,” says Chris. “We’re starting to feel more comfortable on bigger stages and I want to get out there, do bigger slots at festivals, I want to travel the world, I want to conquer different countries and as long as we keep gaining respect for what we do as musicians we’ll be as big as we can be. I think the sky’s the limit. My aspirations extend for years.”
